Watertoren Goes

Location:

Goes

Year:

1999

The ‘Goese Toren’ was the first steel water tower in the Netherlands to be built with an open framework and a concrete reservoir with an internal wall of steel. The water tower’s original water reservoir was supported by eight steel columns. A panoramic lift has been installed between these columns, and the basin itself has been rebuilt to provide 600 m2 of office space spread over four storeys plus a tower room. The exceptional positioning of the lift provides an outstanding view. On each storey the industrial character of the Goes water tower has been manifestly preserved. In the water reservoir and in the tower small windows have been introduced. The rounded form of the water tower is distinctly visible on each storey. Rusty surfaces, treated with a special coating, have been deliberately left in sight to emphasize the tower’s character.
