Residential Care Centre Zandley

Location:

Drunen

Year:

2010

The Jacobushof development in Drunen has been rebuilt and consists of 46 rooms for psychogeriatric patients, 15 somatic apartments and 43 low-level care apartments with the accompanying support functions. In addition, 35 independent living accommodation units and an area for a health clinic have been included in the plan. The programme is housed in four sections – on the one hand so as not to create a colossal object in the centre of Drunen, and on the other hand to provide all apartments with a good orientation to the sun. The sections alternate between three and four floors and are connected with one another on the ground floor, and partially on the upper floor, by galleries that also house the support functions and recreational areas. The facades are divided into separate sections to emphasise the small-scale and the individual unit level within the total project. Two types of brick and two types of mortar have been chosen for the various facade sections: combining them produces four different areas, giving a varied look. The floor plan of the project is designed from an organisational point of view. The rooms for psychogeriatric patients are part of five different departments: they are spread out over the ground floor and the first floor, are connected by a corridor and have a closed courtyard garden. The somatic apartments and low-level care apartments are interchangeable.
