Emergis is the organisation for mental health care in the province of Zeeland. The main location is on the edge of the city of Goes, providing clinical facilities. The E-plaza is the heart of the psychiatric clinic, which was designed by RDH in 1970 as a social centre. The pavilion design is characteristic for the sober architecture of that time; low, dark and a lot of weathered wood.
New fire safety regulations, the necessity for a separate smoking area and the demand for better conference facilities had made the opposite necessary: light and space.
We decided to keep the successful formula of a meeting centre and to expand it with conference facilities and a new self-service concept for the enlarged restaurant. The E-plaza is now a multifunctional space, where staff and clients can eat breakfast, lunch or dinner, visit a hairdresser or do some shopping. It is a place where people can meet. A theatre even offers the possibility of organising all sorts of events.
