The various levels of the technical vocational courses in Vlissingen come together in the brand new Technum, an inspiring learning environment for preparatory secondary vocational education (‘vmbo’, Scheldemondcollege), senior secondary vocational education (‘mbo’, ROC Zeeland), higher professional education (‘hbo’, Hogeschool Zeeland) and the business community. A modern building has been realised on the old foundations of the ROC’s practical building and combines large self-study areas with practical and instructional areas. The building has been constructed using a steel structure with V-columns and castellated beams over which a metal skin has been drawn, providing a large open and transparent space inside. Pleasant workspace lighting, different types of tables, adjustable chairs and lots of glass walls were chosen for the interior design. By making the workspaces transparent and using attractive, good quality materials for the interior, students can show what they are working on and be proud of their workspace.
